Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances Marvel Comics Variant Checklist

At NYCC 2023 I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Thrawn Alliances novel by Timothy Zahn was getting adapted into comic form by Marvel comics. First off, it’s great that Zahn is working with Jody Houser on the script. I want Zahn in any and all Thrawn centered content.

And 2nd, I love book adaptations in comics.

They make much more sense to me than adapting TV shows or movies because with shows or movies, we already know what the scenes and characters actually looked like. With books, we’re often relying on how well the author describes everything and our own imaginations.

For example, Thrawn Alliances as a comic adaptation will finally give readers their first look at what the Grysk actually looked like.

Thrawn Alliances is the 2nd book in the new canon Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn:

1. Star Wars: Thrawn
2. Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances
3. Star Wars: Thrawn Treason (I assume we get this adapted as well in time)

Star Wars: Thrawn was adapted in 2018 and while the individual issues are not the cheapest things to get your hands out. Marvel did release a new printing of the TPB earlier in 2023.

Like the self-titled Thrawn adaptation series (and the adaptations of the Legends Thrawn Trilogy), I expect Alliances to have 6 issues.

UPDATE: Thrawn Alliances will have 4 issues.

This post is going to keep track of all variants, release dates, and pre-order details for all 6 issues of Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances. I anticipate a boatload of exclusives for this one with Thrawn’s star on the rise after his live action debut in Ahsoka so be sure to check back often.
