Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White, & Red Coming To Marvel Comics

by GrandAdmiralFrik

Marvel and Lucasfilm have just announced that we’re getting a brand spankin’ new Darth Maul centered comic mini-series, Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White, & Red this April!

This is the second Star Wars related addition to the long running Black, White, & Red/Blood series from Marvel Comics. Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White, & Red kicked off on April 26 last year and created quite a buzz with 23 different variants (16 were store exclusives) announced for the first issue alone.

Like the Vader mini-series, Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White and Red will be a 4-part mini-series with different creative teams for each issue. Issue #1 will be released on April 25th, 2024, nearly one-year after the release of Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White, and Red #1, and will be written by Benjamin Percy (X-Force, Wolverine, Ghost Rider) and illustrated by Stefano Raffaele (Detective Comics, The Joker, Spider-Man 2099.)

The first issue will be a pre-Phantom Menace story where Palpatine tasks Maul to investigate a prison ship that went dark. On that ship he finds a group called The Final Occultation, a dark side cult that.

“Palpatine believes in order, control — whereas the Final Occultation believes in chaos. They both channel the dark side, but with different intents. When you meet this cult, you’ll know that most could not withstand their violence and dark intents…but Maul might have a chance.”

This should be fun. I thought Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White, and Red was a bit hit or miss in terms of quality. The art was always fantastic but the short stories and the way it was formatted made it difficult for the creative teams to tell a big enough story.

This Darth Maul version appears to have less cooks in the kitchen for each issue and I think that will lead to a story that sticks in reader’s minds much better.

As soon as the April 2024 solicitations are announced (should be any day now) I’ll be sure to get a variant checklist up and running. You’d have to think there will be quite a few exclusives for this one because… people fuggin’ love Maul.

For light and life!
