Welcome back to another Star Wars new comic book day preview! On Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, there are just two new Star Wars comics coming. I believe this week is intentionally light due to the July 4th holiday in the United States.
Let’s take a look…
Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #36 – Boba Fett is teaming up with T’onga, Durge, Deathstick, 4-Lom, and Zuckuss to settle the score with the Black Sun syndicate. I expect this to be the first “official” appearance of Prince Xizor in comics. He was shown (unnamed) as a hologram in Star Wars: Hidden Empire #1 but this issue should make it official. I don’t have inside info or early copies and this is just a prediction.
Regardless, I don’t know that the “first full canon appearance of Prince Xizor” will move the needle all that much value wise. Could cause a pop but nothing to go nuts over.
The cover to get for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #36 is the Jerry Ordway “classic trade dress” variant in my humble opinion. It’s an homage to the 80’s Return of the Jedi comic covers and it’s beautiful.
Star Wars: Darth Vader #36 – I did a write up on this issue earlier today taht included a 5 page preview showing the Droid Crush Pirates of Bestoon gearing up to take on Darth Vader. Check that out here.
Like Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #36, this issue also has a Jerry Ordway “classic trade dress” variant that I will be getting. I’m a sucker for retro variants and Star Wars doesn’t do near enough of them.
Also out next week are the Star Wars Hyperspace Stories TPB Vol. 1 by Dark Horse Comics and Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: Tales of the Jedi Vol 3.
There’s also a ton of Star Wars comics on FOC this week. They’re all listed below but my favorites are:
- The foil variant of Star Wars #220. It’s super cool and the perfect thing to get signed by Rosario Dawson if you ever get the chance.
- The Luciano Vecchio variant for Star Wars #37. Just beautiful art of Leia on the cover.
- If you’re a gambling man the 1:100 retailer incentive variant of Max Rebo could be fun bet. It’s not cheap but this will likely be lightly ordered even though Max Rebo has a bit of a cult following.

Star Wars Comic Book FOC Deadlines
For those who aren’t familiar, FOC, or Final Order Cut Off, is when publishers and distributors require retailers to get their orders in. Printers then print according to that number (sometimes with overages). So, if you want to absolutely guarantee you get a book, the best bet is to order it before FOC. Final Order Cut Off is Monday 7/03/23 this week.
