This year on Free Comic Book Day 2024 Dark Horse Comics is creating a free comic book featuring the characters of the popular children’s show on Disney+, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. It’s called Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures – The Sky Parade Rescue and is written by Daniel Jose Older and the cover/interior art is done by friend of Drunk Wooky, Andy Duggan.
Side Note: Andy Duggan is the best. He offered to create a custom Grand Admiral Frik art piece to include in my Kickstarter which ended about two weeks ago. He did this out of the kindness of his heart and because he just liked what I was up to. So do me a favor... when you get this issue on free comic book day, take a picture of it, share it out on social media, and tag both Dark Horse Comics and Andy Duggan to show some love. You will be able to get this free at all participating comic shops on May 4, 2024. May the 4th be with you, of course. If you don’t have any comic shops near you, you can also check eBay here. Since this will be a key issue, there will be people selling them.

Young Jedi Adventures takes place in the High Republic era and follows 4 main protagonists; Kai Brightstar (Jedi Youngling), Lys Solay (Jedi Youngling), Nash Durango (Pilot), and Nubs (Jedi Youngling). They run around helping citizens of the Republic and protecting them from scoundrels who try to hurt and steal from them.
If you’re familiar with the “Spidey & Friends” show about Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and Miles Morales… it’s essentially the Star Wars version of that. My kids love it.
This issue is significant for collectors as well as it’s going to be the first comic book appearance of most of the characters in the show.
Based on the 2-page preview below, this comic will include:
- The first comic book appearance of Kai Brightstar
- The first comic book appearance of Nubs
- The first comic book appearance of Lys Solay
And there will likely be more. I’d imagine that their caretaker at the Jedi Temple, Jedi Master Zia, will also get her first appearance in this comic. And it’s likely that the show antagonists, Taborr and his crew, will appear as well.
I don’t see the characters from this show going away anytime soon so the potential for future stories as they age up is very strong in my opinion. Especially Nubs since he’s a fan favorite already.
