LFG! The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor from @darkhorsecomics comes out this month on Feb 20th!

I’m technically not supposed to share any images from the book outside of the promotional preview images.

Normally there are 4-5 spreads to use for reviews that are approved by the publisher but Dark Horse doesn’t have any on their website where they normally would. So I am going to take a risk and share a few screen grabs throughout this post and just hope that Dark Horse understands.

The Force is with me and I am with the Force.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor from EA and Respawn Entertainment launched in Q2 2023 and quickly became one of the most successful Star Wars video games of all time, beating the launch of its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s launch numbers out of the gates.

It was more than just a commercial success. Despite some performance issues on PC, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has steadily won awards and has been rated highly by players and game critics alike.

This is largely due to the story that you play out inside of the game and the lore that the player gets to be a part of.

The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does a great job of breaking down the different elements of the game and why the creative teams involved made the decisions they made. I’m not an artist myself so the sheer amount of effort that went into designing the heroes, villains, glup shittos, ships, weapons, planets, backdrops, etc. is honestly mind-blowing to me.

Taking concept art and transforming it into living, breathing, characters and locations will always be impressive to me. This book shows exactly how much effort goes into making the game something fun to play but also stunning to look at.

There are two versions of this book that will be made available. I only have digital copies at the moment so I cannot comment on the quality of the physical books, paper, prints, etc. But if the Art of Star Wars Visions book is anything to go off of, this book should be pretty damn nice to hold.

Here are the official publisher descriptions for each:

Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Final Thoughts

I don’t do ratings on books.

My mood plays into the rating too much. If I’m in a good mood, the books will get higher ratings. So I avoid that mess. That being said, I like this.

I only have digital copies at the moment so I cannot comment on the quality of the physical books, paper, prints, etc. But if the Art of Star Wars Visions book is anything to go off of, this book should be pretty damn nice to hold.

The images, thought processes, and game elements are thoughtfully laid out and visually beautiful.

The main thing to consider when trying to decide whether or not you are going to buy this is – will you read it? If so, it’s worth getting in my opinion. Die-hard Cal Kestis and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order / Survivor fans will really dig it.
