Every Character on Star Wars #25 Cover by Steven McNiven

by GrandAdmiralFrik

It was first teased during the Marvel panel at Star Wars Celebration but today we got a look at the first high resolution image of Steven McNiven’s 1:25 Retail Incentive Variant for Star Wars #25 by Charles Soule.

Star Wars #25 will be an anthology issue that will feature characters from many of the different comic stories he has written while writing for Star Wars. As well as art from the different artists that he’s worked with over the years. Scroll to the bottom of this post for pre-order links to make sure you don’t miss out.

But more than that this issue is a milestone comic that acts as a celebration of Charles Soule’s 100th Star Wars comic that he has written as well as the 100th overall issue in the main Star Wars storyline since Disney took over. There are 75 issues in the 2015 run and this will be the 25th from the 2020 run.

On a personal note, I am in love with this cover. I really love simplistic covers and wild ass covers with a ton going on. This one checks the 2nd box for me. You can pre-order on Ebay here.

I count 33 named characters on the cover plus some Jawas and a Tusken. I have them all labeled here on the @drunkwooky instagram page.

Here’s a closer look:

I think this is a keeper. No clue if it will ever be worth a lot but I don’t care. I love this concept for the book and the cover makes it a keep for my personal collection.

What Makes Star Wars #25 A Milestone Issue?

According to Charles Soule, since this is his 100th modern era Star Wars comic and the 100th comic in the Star Wars run (2015 and 2020), he’s received the greenlight from Marvel and Disney to do something special with it.

While we know very little about the specifics of this issue we do know that Charles has been writing it for years and Marvel is producing EIGHT open covers and two retail incentive covers. Clearly expecting this to sell well.

Here’s what Charles had to say about this importance of Star Wars #25 on his newsletter from March 2022.

I’ve been hinting about something special happening for the upcoming twenty-fifth issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic series, which I’ve been writing since 2020. It’s a milestone in many ways. First, getting to 25 issues on any series is a big deal. This is also the 100th issue of Star Wars published since the big relaunch in 2014. It is also the 100th Star Wars script I’ve written, between all the various titles I’ve worked on: (Lando, Obi-Wan & Anakin, Poe Dameron, Darth Vader, The Rise of Kylo Ren, Star Wars, War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign and Eye of the Storm.) That’s a lot of stories!

In order to mark the occasion, Star Wars #25 will feature new stories set in the worlds of some of those signature tales, including the creative teams for most of them, and variant covers from artists who worked on them with me. I want to leave a little mystery for now, so I’ll hold off telling you what I’m doing and who’s drawing what, but I think you’ll be happy. It’s been amazing to work with these artists again, and to tell new tales in these worlds. I’m also grateful that Marvel and Lucasfilm and the artists got on board with doing this – everyone’s crazy busy, and this was outside the normal range of the stories we’re telling right now. Feels really good.”

Time will tell if all of this hype amounts to a key issue, first appearance, and/or a nice investment opportunity but they certainly have my attention.

Hey hey!
