It’s finally here! After months and months of delays, we are actually going to be getting Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars: High Republic Adventures – Quest of the Jedi #1 by author Claudia Gray and artist Fico Ossio! This one-shot comic hits stores next week on Wednesday, April 26th, and today we got our hands on the official preview of the issue. Annnnnd… it looks amazing.
The 5-page preview actually has a lot of meat to it.
Here are a few things that I noticed…
1. The preview kicks off with Jedi Knight Azlin Rell (Path of Deceit) talking to Jedi Master Zin at the temple on Corsucant. Azlin Rell was in the High Republic Path of Deceit YA novel but Jedi Master Zin is a new character.
2. We are FINALLY getting someone mentioning the deaths of Jedi Master Zallah Macri and Padawan Kevmo Zink. Both were first mentioned in the Path of Deceit YA novel. They were the first Jedi casualties to the Leveler in phase II of the High Republic. Azlin is on a mission to find out what happened to them.
3. The two Jedi then go into the archives. In the archives there are busts of Jedi who make up the “Lost Twenty” lining the walkway. If you look closely you’ll see that the bust that is speculated to be Keeve Trennis is empty. Meaning that bust comes after Phase II of the High Republic. This adds even more evidence that Keeve leaves the order at some point. I will write a separate post about this topic today or tomorrow. If you’re a bit lost with what I’m saying just check back soon and I’ll break it all down.
4. In the archives Azlin, and Vin discuss the artifacts that Kevmo and Zallah were sent to investigate before their deaths. We know that this references the Rod of Daybreak and the Rod of Seasons. Two scepter looking artifacts that hold a stone at the top that can be used to control the nameless. Though the Jedi are currently in the Dark about their purpose. It’s then implied that the stones are related to the adventures of a legendary Jedi Master named Barnabus Vim.

5. It’s notable to me that we are going back even further in the timeline for this story. It’s uncharted territory as this is the first story told that we know takes place before Phase II of the High Republic while still being considered a part of the High Republic.
6. We then get a flashback to what I believe is the core story of this comic. An adventure with Barnabus Vim and his Padawan Vix Fonnick on the remote planet of Angcord. The planet has connections to powerful force artifacts that they are there to investigate. Specifically the Echo Stone as it was hidden away from an ancient Sith named Darth Ravi there long ago. Darth Ravi is a new Sith and this is their first mention.
That’s a TON of info packed in a 5 page preview. It’s raised my excitement for this issue from “very excited” to “holy sh*t I can’t wait to read that!”

This has all of the makings of a key issue and, while I never like telling people what to buy, if you read Star Wars comics I think it’s a no-brainer pick up.
