DrunkWooky’s What The Hell Episode 2: Georgia O’Keefe’s Fevered Nightmare

A couple things before I get into this: First, this is a very well sculpted and painted statue. I don’t want any body to get the wrong idea that I don’t respect the craftsmanship here. Second, the images below aren’t pornography, but could probably be mistaken for it at work, so maybe categorize this as NSFW-lite.

Ok.

I love the imports coming out of Japan. Japanese toy companies have given us Transformers, epic figures like ShenronGundam, and of course Godzilla and the whole monster crew!

But then there are things I don’t understand. Not things I don’t like. I might like this. It’s funny. I’m not sure it’s supposed to be. But it’s funny to me. I just don’t understand it. Maybe somebody could explain it to me. I’d be open to that. But for now, I am left saying “what the hell!?”

Good Smile Company have announce Takayuki Takeya’s “Cthulhu” from the new “Cthulhu Evolution” statue series coming out of Max Factory and distributed by Good Smile Company.

Now, looking at the images in the following gallery, I get some Cthulhu vibes. It’s definitely a statue that puts off an unsettling image and Takayuki Takeya deserves tons of accolades for that. But, the thing is, I can’t help but think that the shape of the statue and all its folds and tentacles remind me of a certain part of anatomy.

Looking at this statue, I’m taken back to a visit to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum I took with my wife. This looks like the type of geometry she was working with. She easily could have created it while afflicted with the flu and waking from a fever dream. nightmare.

Love it or hate it, I’m pretty sure my wife’s not letting me put this in the living room next to the TV.

Takayuki Takeya’s “Cthulhu” is slated for a March 2020 release and runs 90,000 Yen (about $850.00). (Although BBTS is selling it for $1,414.99 over here.)

You can check out the specially dedicated site for the statue here.

From Good Smile Company:

Takayuki Takeya’s “Cthulhu”

Presenting a new Cthulhu original statue series featuring Japanese creators.

The Cthulhu Original Statue Series “Cthulhu Evolution” beings with Japanese Sculptor Takayuki Takeya design of Cthulhu as a polystone statue. Based on the description found in Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu”, Takayuki Takeya has reimagined the Great Old One, making for a statue like never seen before.

The sculpting and paintwork master were done by Takayuki Takeya himself. Cthulhu stands atop a base representing the ruins of the sunken city of R’lyeh and its non-Euclidean geometry.

A 36 page booklet in approximately A4 size is included as a purchase bonus. Be sure to add this statue of the Great Old One Cthulhu to your collection.
