An Unlikely Hero Emerges From The Unknown Regions

Hey Hey! Drunk Wooky lives!!

I am Grand Admiral Babu Frik and have been assigned command of the Drunk Wooky fleet. About a week after our fearless leader retired I reached out to see if, instead of shutting the site down, he would be interested in retaining ownership while deleting the burden that came with the position.

From this post on I will be posting about everything Star Wars comics and I could not be more excited. I sincerely hope you are as excited as I am.

My Imperial recognized name is Ryan Farrell and I call St. Louis my home with my wife Dawn, two kids, Ella (5) and Hudson (4), and have another on the way this summer. But really the only thing that matters to you is that I am a huge Star Wars fan who loves reading, collecting, and discussing Star Wars comics and books. And as much as I love my government name, from here on out I will be referring to myself as Grand Admiral Babu Frik. It’s an objectively more fun name.

I want to make one thing abundantly clear, the reason I reached out to keep DrunkWooky.com going was because it was a resource that I used. I found great value in the work that was being done here. Since you are reading this… you likely did too.

My goal here is to run this site exactly as Adam had. Giving timely updates on new issues, FOC reminders, new store exclusives, and, from time to time, speculation, with one exception…

Starting asap I will also be covering books. So if you are a fan of the Star Wars novels and YA books that Del Rey and Disney Lucasfilm Press publish then you should be in for a treat. If not, no worries, comics will still be the focus of this site.

So while this ship is under new command the goal is for you to hardly notice.

This site worked/works because Adam was always honest and the readers trusted that there were no ulterior motives. Here are a few things I’d like to lay out there up front so we can make this relationship a positive one.

  • I’ve been collecting for years, not decades. I will never pretend to be the foremost expert on Star Wars lore and many of you reading this will have issues, first appearances, key issues, burned into your brain better than I do. I’m saying this to let you know that I will make mistakes from time to time. But I will NEVER be too proud to admit (and correct) a mistake. Just let me know in the comments of the post, through email, or on the ComicsHeatingUp forum.
  • Never buy a book because I like it. Seriously. I’m a fan just like you. I get excited about stuff just like you. If a cover is fire or there is a potential big first appearance that excitement will be clear. This does not mean you should buy it and it certainly does not mean you should buy a bunch. That’s your call. If you buy 20 covers of something because I mention a potential connection to a rumored show and that character dies the next issue I don’t want to see you sharpen your pitch forks and spark up your torches. My role is to show you what the options are and to initiate discussion… the way you spent your money is 100% up to you. This point will be repeated over and over by me.

I will sell comics from time to time on eBay and other sources. Nothing I post here will be influenced by those efforts. I will never pump a book because I think it can make me money.
  • I will still use Affiliate Links when discussing covers but will not exclusively talk about covers where I can get a commission. Most people know the drill at this point. If you click a link to a product in a blog, chances are it will be an affiliate link. This will not cost you anything. DrunkWooky will just get a small % from the seller. So while I would certainly love it if everything you bought was through an affiliate link, I’m just as happy if you get something you love without seeing a penny.

With that being said and since I’m a sucker for continuity, let’s talk about some Obi-Wan updates…

Obi-Wan #3 Comic Solicit For July 2022

I’m gonna do a full post of July 2022 solicits later this week but wanted to highlight a cover that’s going to make Clone Wars Fans feel some type of way.

We get Obi-Wan in his Clone Wars armor next to his 212th Attack Battalion comrades including the only and only Commander Cody.

This issue covers the Battle of Abrion Bridge and sounds like a good time. For the reader. Sounds horrible for the characters. Which of course is a Clone Wars staple.

THE BATTLE OF ABRION BRIDGE!

  • While continuing to wait out a nasty sandstorm on Tatooine, Obi-Wan reflects on one of his most grueling experiences in the Clone Wars…
  • It’s a memory full of pain and bloodshed, and one that has lasting consequences.
  • The battle also reminds Obi-Wan of an age-old question he has long wrestled with throughout his life: what is a Jedi’s true purpose in war?

Your Turn

Thank you so much for giving this post even just a few minutes of your time. I have one last favor to ask from you.

  1. Let me know if there is anything new that you would like me to cover on DrunkWooky. I do have a day job that will take precedent from time to time but I will do my best to make this the best damn Star Wars comic resource the internet has ever seen.
  2. If you like my posts and you have a community of Star Wars fans that you frequent I would love it if you would help spread the work by sharing it with your peeps. I have some pretty cool things in the works for the site but for those to work… I need the site to grow. And no worries if not. You do you but i wouldn’t be putting my best foot forward if I didn’t ask.

Until next time you can find me in my quarters preparing for what’s to come.

For Light and Life.

Welcome aboard and thank you. This site has been invaluable to me as a SW comic collector. Adam was a master of identifying first appearances which everybody else missed so I’d love too see that continue. Reviewing books is also a nice addition 🙂

I only discovered this site six months ago and it has been a treasured resource. I’m so happy to see that it is continuing! Thanks for taking the baton, Grand Admiral Babu Frik. Many thanks to DrunkWooky for creating an awesome resource.
