Check out our full review and in-hand gallery below. Blame it on my history degree or blame it on my narcissism, but I write long posts.Use the nifty headings below for guidance or skip all the way to the end to comment for a chance to win our giveaway!

I was really excited for this particular 2-pack because Wolverine has always been my favorite Marvel superhero. Long before I broke my femur and had a titanium rod implanted in the marrow of my leg, I’ve identified with the little runt. Which is funny, because I’m like 6’4″.

In general, however, Hulk really makes this 2-pack worthwhile. Wolverine is plagued with some of the problems his other iterations such as Weapon X version have had in the past. Namely, he’s top-heavy, his claws don’t sit straight, and his ability to pose leaves a lot to be desired.

Hulk, on the other hand is surprisingly well-balanced, highly detailed in both sculpt and paint, and a whole lot of fun to SMASH Logan with. Having said that, both figures have a complete lack of accessories which is really disappointing.

Packaging

Nothing too surprising here other than the fact that the box is huge! It’s about 1 1/2″ to 2 ” taller than the Korg and Grandmaster 2-pack and about 2″ wider. This is all due to Bruce Banner. I don’t dislike this, though, because it gives room for the beautiful remastered Hulk 181 excerpts on either side.

Articulation

Wolverine:

All the articulation we’re used to in Marvel Legends figures is present here with Wolverine, including double elbows and double knees. His head is a little limited when looking up because of the ridge to his neck in the back. Other than that, I mainly had issues with looseness on the elbow joints, probably due to how massive his forearms are and the amount of weight those joints are holding onto. Wolverine also boasts these upper back flexion and torsion joints which are nice for him reaching across his body. He’s not quite getting into a two-handed katana holding pose yet, though. Another item I had an issue with was Wolverine’s claws; they won’t stay straight, which is a nit-picky little thing to deal with when posing him. One nice touch to top Wolverine off is the articulation of his blue shoulder armor. That keeps his poses looking natural when you move his arms.

Hulk:

The one area in which Hulk is lacking is a double elbow joint, but he gets the same upper back joints as Wolverine to give him some reach. In general the joints are tight, he can hold a pose, and he’s very well weighted. The better engineered figure of the two in my opinion.

Sculpt

Wolverine:

Sculpt is an area where the Wolverine figure is doing particularly well. There are mounds of muscle all over the figure and he really gives the appearance of an incredibly strong super-human mutant with veins and texture throughout his musculature. His head is a little more squat than past Wolverine figures, to match his first appearance look. The tread on the bottom of his boots is also a nice touch! One of the downfalls I found was a limp boot cuff. Another was a very visible seam down Logan’s bicep. Wolverine’s skinny elbow joints are not attractive to look at either. It looks a lot like a hot dog on a grill and you just pierced the hot dog casing with your tongs.

Boot tread.

Hulk:

Hulk is everything good about the Wolverine figure above without any of the bad. Yeah, there are visible joints, but they’re in places like the inner thigh. Innocuous locations that don’t stick out.

Paint Application

Wolverine:

With the exception of an askew black line on Wolverine’s nose, the paint application is all clean and crisp. Nice bright, sharp edges showing off those 70s comic colors. His eyes are painted dead straight with no smudge and his mouth is complete with a nice row of gritted teeth and visible gums.

Hulk:

Again, like in other categories, ditto to Wolverine’s paint application, except without the errors and with more good attributes to boot. The shading on Hulk’s green muscle is really impressive coming from the Marvel Legends line. I would expect to see this type of multiple wash application from Mezcos and other higher end lines, but this was just a nice treat from a mid-range collector’s 1/12 scale line.

Summary:

In general, Wolverine’s look makes him worth it, but his ability to pose is a letdown. Mix that with his Edward Scissorhands, droopy-looking claws, and he doesn’t carry the 2-Pack. Thankfully, Hulk is an awesome enough addition to the Marvel Legends line that it makes the whole pack worth it.
