Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #1 by Timothy Zahn, Jody Houser, Andrea Di Vito, and Pat Olliffe comes out on January 24, 2024, but Marvel Comics has released a 5 part unlettered art preview to give us a sneak peek at the art.

Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #1 is the first of four comic issues by Marvel Comics that will adapt the Thrawn Alliances Novel by Timothy Zahn into comic form. This is a great opportunity for those who want to know the basic story told in the novel without having to read the full novel.
And while I highly recommend reading the actual book as well, there are 6 canon Thrawn novels and it can be a bit daunting to dive in. Thrawn Alliances is the 2nd (of 3) novel that initially came out in 2018.
The first book in the trilogy, Star Wars: Thrawn, came out in 2017 and got a comic adaptation in 2018 by Marvel Comics. They recently did a new printing of the TPB for that adaptation which you can still get here on TFAW.
The third book is Star Wars: Thrawn: Treason (2019) and I would expect that book to also get an adaptation at some point. Especially now that Thrawn is officially part of the live-action Star Wars family after appearing in Season One of Ahsoka earlier in 2024.
Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances will have a bunch of first appearances in it. It’s touch to predict on an issue-by-issue basis without doing a full reread but essentially every single character that first appeared in the book, assuming they’re important enough, will get their first appearance in this comic mini-series.
Most importantly, from a lore standpoint, this series will include the first visual depiction of the Darshi and the Grysk. The Grysk were a species whose origins are unknown but are believed to have come from the unknown regions that Thrawn believed were the single greatest threat to the galaxy. Even more so than the Empire. The Grysk are the entire reason that Thrawn joined the Empire, to begin with. His species, the Chiss, were at risk of falling to the Grysk’s manipulation and overwhelming naval strength.
Thrawn fled the Chiss Ascendancy to join the Empire with the hope that General Anakin Skywalker would lend a hand in defeating the Grysk before they took over not just the Chiss, but the Empire as well. This mini-series will tell that story.
