New Star Wars Comics & Books For November 14-15th, 2023

Welcome to the weekly new Star Wars comics post where I break down all-new comics & books coming out next week, November 14th and 15th, 2023. As all Star Wars comics with a final order cutoff next Monday, November 13th!

There’s a TON coming out next week.

Let’s do it.

UPDATED: Star Wars The High Republic Phase Three Reading Order & Comic Checklist

Star Wars Dark Droids #4 by Charles Soule – Only 2 issues left and I’m not 100% sure where this mini-series is going. I’ve enjoyed it. I think the writing and art has been fantastic but I am just not sure how this is supposed to impact the bigger picture since we know the Scourge eventually fails. Should be a fun read either way. Absolutely love the John Tyler Christopher Ajax Sigma cover though.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 #6 by Rodney Barnes – This is an adaptation of episode 6, “The Tragedy”, from season 2 of the Mandalorian. It’s the episode where Boba Fett returns so there should be some sick art of him wrecking stormtroopers. RIP Razorcrest. The John McCrea variant is a buy for me. I love the art. Fun fact — this variant was originally supposed to be an exclusive for Season 1 #3 but the shop that had it couldn’t pay their bill and it was canceled. Glad it’s being reused here.

Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Vol 8 – This collected edition collects a bunch of issues from the original Dark Horse Comics run from the 90s and early 2000s. The full list of all issues is in the publishers description below.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Wookiees Hardcover by Marc Sumerak and Alberto Buscicchio – This is an all ages reference book from Insight Editions with tons of facts and art — all about Wookiees. I have a copy coming and am planning to share one fact every week for Wookiee Wednesdays. Honestly this looks pretty amazing.

UPDATE: Star Wars: Dark Droids Comic Reading Order & Variant Checklist

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary Covers by Chris Sprouse – This is essentially an art gallery of all of the cover art from Chris Sprouse’s variant line of ROTJ anniversary covers. Probably not going to be worth anything down the road but still fun for ROTJ fans.

Star Wars Visions – Peach Momoko #1 by Peach Momoko – The first visions story with all original characters taking place in a comic. Really looking forward to this. There could be some spec value in this if it gets adapted to an upcoming season of Star Wars Visions on Disney+. You can check out the full preview here.

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #38 by Crash Wong and Minkyu Jung – Magna Tolvan has been infected by the Scourge and it’s up to former/current/it’s complicated lovers Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros to save her. No clue if it will be a key. I’d guess it’s pretty contained and we wont get any new characters. I’m a huge fan of the Life Day variant with Aphra and Krrsantan.

Star Wars: The High Republic – Eye of Darkness by George Mann – This is the first adult novel from Phase III of the High Republic. I haven’t posted my review yet but this book kicks all the ass. George Mann is a fantastic writer. He absolutely gets it. If you’re a High Republic fan it’s a must read.

Star Wars: A Disturbance in the Force by Steve Kozak – This is a behind-the-scenes non-fiction book all about the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. It’s a companion piece to an upcoming Documentary with the same title and topic. Here are the details from the announcement.

Star Wars comics with an FOC deadline this upcoming Monday, November 13th, are:

  • Star Wars by Gillen and Pak Omnibus Vol 2 (the 2nd half of the 2015 run FINALLY!)
  • Star Wars: Darth Vader #41 (the final issue of the Dark Droids arc)
  • Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #39 (the final issue of the Dark Droids arc)
  • Star Wars: Revelations #1 (one-shot that will tease all 2024 storylines)
  • Star Wars: The High Republic #2 (should find out more about the Children of the Storm)
  • Star Wars Legends Epic Collection – The Phantom Revealed Vol 4
  • Star Wars Insider #223

Star Wars Legend Epic Collection - The Empire Vol 8

Star Wars: The High Republic – The Eye of Darkness

Format: Adult Novel

Author: George Mann

Release Date: November 14, 2023

One year after the tragic events of The Fallen Star, the Jedi fight to break the Nihil’s control over the galaxy.

The galaxy is divided. Following the shocking destruction of Starlight Beacon, the Nihil have established an impenetrable barrier called the Stormwall around part of the Outer Rim, where Marchion Ro rules and his followers wreak havoc at his every whim. Jedi trapped behind enemy lines, including Avar Kriss, must fight to help the worlds being pillaged by the Nihil while staying one step ahead of the marauders and their Nameless terrors.

Outside of the Nihil’s so-called Occlusion Zone, Elzar Mann, Bell Zettifar, and the other Jedi work alongside the Republic to reach the worlds that have been cut off from the rest of the galaxy. But every attempt to breach the Stormwall has failed, and even communication across the barrier is impossible. The failures and losses weigh heavily upon both Elzar and Bell as they search desperately for a solution.

But even if the Republic and Jedi forces manage to breach the Stormwall, how can the Jedi fight back against the Nameless creatures that prey on the Jedi’s connection to the Force? And what other horrors does Marchion Ro have in store? As desperation for both the Jedi and the Republic grows, any hope of reuniting the galaxy could be all but extinguished. . . .

Star Wars: A Disturbance in the Force – Why the Star Wars Holiday Special Happened

SEP231433

(W) Steve Kozak

Bea Arthur as the owner of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Long scenes entirely of Wookies bleating at each other, without subtitles. Harvey Korman, in drag, as a four-armed Space Julia Child. Six minutes of Jefferson Starship performing for Art Carney and a bored Imperial Guard. Mark Hamill, fresh from his near-fatal motorcycle accident, slathered in pancake makeup. Even by the standards of the 1970s, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special is a peerlessly cringeworthy pop-culture artifact. Just how on earth did this thing ever see the light of day?

To answer that question, as Steven Kozak shows in this fascinating and often hilarious inside look into the making of the Special, you have to understand the cultural moment in which it appeared-a long, long time ago when cheesy variety shows were a staple of network television and StarWars was not yet the billion-dollar multimedia behemoth that it is today. Packed with memorable anecdotes, drawing on extensive new interviews with countless people involved in the production, and told with mingled affection and bewilderment, this never-before-told story gives a fascinating look at a strange moment in pop-culture history that remains an object of fascination even today.

Printers then print according to that number (sometimes with overages). So, if you want to absolutely guarantee you get a book, the best bet is to order it before FOC. Final Order Cut Off is Monday 11/13/23 this week.
