The much hyped Star Wars: Dark Droids comic crossover event from Charles Soule and Marvel comics kicked off last month with Star Wars: Dark Droids #1. The crossover event extends beyond the Dark Droids titled series as it’s the main focal point at the moment in the Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Star Wars: Darth Vader, Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, and the main Star Wars runs.
This month we add to the crossover count with the 1st (of 4) issue of the Star Wars: Dark Droids – D-Squad spin-off series by Marc Guggenheim. This issue comes out Wednesday, September 20, 2023 and today I have a 6 page preview of what to expect!

Before I get into the preview for this issue there are two important things for colelctors to know about Star Wars: Dark Droids #1
- The 1:50 Mike McKone variant is the first cover appearance of Ajax Sigma, the droid revolutionary first introduced in Star Wars: Revelations #1 last year. I won’t pretend to know the long term value of something like this but I do think Ajax sticks around awhile.
- There will be a bonus 10-page story called “The Book of Ajax” in this comic that will provide more backstory about Ajax Sigma, including from his time in the High Republic era. I am unsure if this will be a recurring thing for all 4 issues or if it’s just for the first issue. I speculated before that this could be a sneaky place to add in some High Republic first appearances and, based on the preview, it appearas that will be the case.
The most interesting thing about the preview (aside from that it looks like a fun ride) is the “Book of Ajax” page with 5 High Republic Jedi on it. The yellow Twi’lek is Loden Greatstorm, the legendary Jedi who struck down Ajax Sigma and who eventually gets husked by the Nameless and Marchion Ro.
I’ll give out more details on who they are as soon as I have details but it’s very likely they are all first appearances. The key here is to see if any of them survive.
