New Star Wars Comics For July 2022 Announced
Starwars.com revealed the slate of Star Wars comic offerings from Marvel l ate last week and we’ve got them all laid out below! Light analysis on the stories covered thus far as I’m still getting situated but I wanted to make sure y’all knew everything that was in the hopper for this summer.
No pre-orders live for many of these yet, but we’ll give you a heads. Keep your eyes peeled on TFAW until then!
STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN #2 – First Full Comic Appearance Grogu

BATTLE WITH THE BEASTLY MUDHORN!
- Having tracked down a valuable quarry, the Mandalorian must now contend with thieving bandits.
- Will the Mandalorian battle it out with the Jawas or is an alliance in the cards?
Since Starwars.com stated that: “The Mandalorian will be an eight-issue, episode-by-episode adaptation.” So, we can reasonably reckon who’s going to make first appearances by looking at who showed up in the episodes as they correlate to the issue numbers.
For issue 2 there are not many… but one will make up for the rest of them:
This will be Grogu’s first full appearance in a comic book. (first cover appearance on a traditional comic was Darth Vader #20 Sprouse Variant);
Good hot damn I’m excited for this one and expect a ton of store exclusives to be in the mix as well.

“LET’S KEEP A LITTLE OPTIMISM HERE.”
- But optimism is hard to come by with the Millennium Falcon gone and Han and Chewie in their toughest spot ever!
- Greedo is back and boy, is he mad!
- Featuring the returns of Marshal Buck Vancto and Khel Tanna. Which one is going to get their hands on Han first?
- All this and more in the rip-roaring conclusion of “The Crystal Run.”
I’m personally keeping an eye on both Buck Vancto and Khel Tanna. They both first appeared in Issue #1 and have the looks of characters who could be more than something that only exist in one comic storyline.
STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI #3 (OF 5)
NOTE: There are no pre-orders yet that I could find but they should be up on TFAW any day now. Be sure to keep an eye on it.

THE BATTLE OF ABRION BRIDGE!
- While continuing to wait out a nasty sandstorm on Tatooine, Obi-Wan reflects on one of his most grueling experiences in the Clone Wars…
- It’s a memory full of pain and bloodshed, and one that has lasting consequences.
- The battle also reminds Obi-Wan of an age-old question he has long wrestled with throughout his life: what is a Jedi’s true purpose in war?
It’s so nice to see my boy Cody finally getting some love.
STAR WARS: THE HALCYON LEGACY #5 (OF 5)
ETHAN SACKS (W) • WILL SLINEY (A) • Cover by E.M. GIST
Variant Cover by VALERIO GIANGIORDANO
“LAST STAND ON THE HALCYON”
- Star-crossed lovers who crossed the wrong syndicate try to escape on the Halcyon.
- But even in the chaos of the early days of the New Republic, can they evade a murderers’ row of bounty hunters stalking them – including BOSSK?
- And years in the future, the pirate CRIMSON JACK closes in on the legendary Galactic Starcruiser.
We all love Bossk! What an unapologetic creep! He first appeared in comics in a digest size Marvel Illustrated Empire Strikes Back. Made his first magazine comic cameo in Empire Strikes Back Weekly 127, with his first magazine comic cover being Empire Strikes Back Weekly 129. Finally, he made his first traditional comic book cameo and cover appearance in Star Wars 42 alongside Boba Fett!

- Meanwhile, Valance has found new purpose as Darth Vader’s secret weapon. But how far will he be willing to go to protect an Imperial officer from assassins?
Super cool cover and it’s being billed as Bounty Hunter vs. Knights of Ren. Not a whole lot to dislike there.
