Every year in May comic shops celebrate the industry with Free Comic Book Day, a day where they offer sample comics for free and offer discounts (typically) on their backstock comics, toys, etc. Usually, it’s a fun day to stop into your local comic shop (shout out Altered State Comics in St. Louis, Mo.) and hop around to other shops you may not visit as often.

This year’s Free Comic Book Day is May 4th, which is perfect because there are two different Star Wars comics being offered to celebrate the occasion – including one that has the potential to be a big key.
That would be the first Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures comic from Dark Horse comics. This comic, written by Daniel Jose Older and illustrated by Andy Duggan, will include characters from the new High Republic children’s show on Disney+, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, which just landed five Children’s and Family Emmy nominations.
The cover, also illustrated by Andy Duggan, includes fan favorite fuzzball from the sho, Nubs, and Qort, who was a main player in the Phase I Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic run. Also, Andy Duggan confirmed in a comment on Twitter that we’ll be seeing more characters from the show such as Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay.

That means that, unless these characters sneak into something before this, this issue will be the first appearances of Nubs, Lys Solay, Kai Brightstar, and others. Making this a pretty big key (especially for a free comic) assuming those characters have a future in the High Republic era of Star Wars lore.
I would make this a priority this NCBD.

The 2nd Star Wars comic announced for FCBD 2024 is Star Wars/Darth Vader #1 (odd naming convention) which will be a 2 part special issue containing new stories that fit into the current Star Wars main comic run by Charles Soule and Darth Vader by Greg Pak.
