Elzar Mann First Cover Appearance? Cover Artist Confirms Correct Answer

by GrandAdmiralFrik

Note: The Star Wars High Republic Vol. 3 Trade Paperback also came out today. Still in stock over at TFAW.

The 2nd printing of the High Republic #15 came out and it is significant for a handful of reasons.

For starters it’s stunning artwork and a fantastic way to wrap up phase 1 of the Marvel comics showing Avar Kriss, Vernestra Rwoh, Bell Zettifar, Stellan Gios, Estala Maru Burryaga, and Keeve Trennis, and Elzar Mann fighting for the Starlight Beacon.

Elzar Mann is one of the most popular characters in all of the High Republic who was first introduced in the first adult novel of the High Republic Era in The Light of the Jedi.

He’s a saucy boy who cannot seem to turn down beautiful women (not very jedi like, my guy), who taps into the dark side and throws AN ENTIRE FLOATING ISLAND, rides a dragon into battle with former Jedi turned space Witcher Ty Yorrik (1st Appearance is Monster of Temple Peak #1), and is very relatable by having struggles with impulse and urges. He’s a perfect flawed hero.

You can see Elzar on the cover of The High Republic #15 2nd Print very clearly below. Even though he’s not in this comic he is in this storyline from the novels.

So is this his first cover appearance? Nope.

When you take a look at the 2nd print of High Republic #1 you see this guy standing behind Grand Master Yoda.

Initially he could come off as some random Jedi but upon closer look it appears to be Mann. Same lightsaber and story wise makes sense to be there with the others.

Then the OG Drunk Wooky that you all know and love reached out to the cover artist Ario Anindito to get confirmation…

And that puts an end to the debate right there.

What is Elzar Mann’s first full appearance?

That would be Star Wars (2020) #20 where Luke Skywalker comes to a red planet in the Gazien system that makes an imprint of anyone who visits there. There Luke gets to have a conversation with Elzar Mann’s imprint.
