Hello and good day my wookiee friends. Just wanted to drop off a quick heads up that Marvel Comics has officially announced that their Free “TRICK-OR-READ” comic this year will be Star Wars: Age of Resistance – Kylo Ren #1.

A reprint of the 2019 comic by Tom Taylor and Leonard Kirk that gives us a look into Kylo Ren’s past.
Think of it like Free Comic Book Day, but in October instead of May. Participating shops are rolling out the welcome mat to trick-or-treaters and collectors alike and offering five different reprinted Marvel comics for free.

Last year, Marvel Alongside Star Wars: Age of Resistance – Kylo Ren #1 shops will also have reprints of Fantastic Four: The Dinosaur Fantastic Four #1, Spider-Boy: The Web-Less Wonder #1, Venom: Bedlam #1, and Spidey and His Amazing Friends #1.
Last year’s Marvel Star Wars TRICK-OR-READ comic was a reprint of Star Wars: The High Republic #5 and was significant because the badge on the front cover answered some questions about what comic book Marvel views as Vernestra Rwoh’s first comic appearance.
Want to Start A New Halloween Tradition?
Last year I reached out to my LCS, Altered State Comics in St. Louis, Missouri, and asked them if they would order me some bundles of these free comics to give away on Halloween to trick-or-treaters. I’m going to do it again this year.
Comic shops are offered bundles of 20 comics for just $5 so I proposed they let me buy them at cost and in return, they could put a flyer in each one promoting their shop’s toys, Pokémon cards, comics, etc.
I would love to see more people do the same.
- It promotes comics as a whole by giving children and new readers a chance to experience the joys of comics for free.
- It gives my comic shop some free exposure by including a flyer about their shop. Hopefully getting them some new customers.
- It’s a relatively inexpensive way to provide something unique to trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood. (don’t worry, I’ll still have candy)
If you think this is a fun idea too, please reach out to your local LCS to see if they would be interested in participating. Chances are they will love the idea.
That’s all for today!
