The title kind of gives the news away. Today I heard that a company called Peachtree Playthings were publishing a reprint of the first two issues of Star Wars The High Republic Adventures and Star Wars Adventures that were originally published by IDW Comics in 2020 and 2021.
They’re being exclusively sold at Dollar Tree. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised.
The best part is that they are only a $1.25 and NICE as hell. They’re printed on serious cardstock. Similar enough to the covers you get on Trade Paperbacks.
Makes you wonder why we can’t get better quality on the rest of our Star Wars covers. I’m sure Peachtree Playthings is getting a good deal on the IP to make that price point work but holy moly the difference in quality compared to the original IDW prints or any Marvel Star Wars comic is pretty staggering.
NEW POST: SPOILERS: Hidden Empire #1 has a few very interesting first appearances… Read Here
It’s also cool that the High Republic Adventures issues are key issue. Issue #1 is getting the same art as the 1:10 retailer incentive ration variant as The High Republic Adventures #1 and is full of first appearances. Issue #2 has the same art as cover A from Star Wars The High Republic Adventures #2 but that issue is also the first appearance of one of my favorite new Star Wars characters of the last decade in Marchion Ro.
No idea if they plan on doing the entire run but I hope they do.
Check ’em out…
Now will these ever hold any value? Honestly… who knows.
But I do love that people will be able to get their hands on a few key issues for dirt cheap. And for $1.25 it’s pretty hard to beat the value.
The first issue of the Darkhorse Comics High Republic Adventures comic run from Phase II of the High Republic comes out on November 30th. This is set 150 years or so before the first phase run.
Check out the Drunk Wooky High Republic Phase II checklist for all variants and links.
That’s all for now.
For light and life.
