A new listing has appeared on Amazon.co.uk for the follow up to the Mandalorian Season 1 Graphic Novel from Panini UK.
This Season 2 Graphic Novel will adapt the entirety of The Mandalorian Season 2 in comic form and graphic novel format. Amazon is showing an October 6, 2022 release date! So, it looks like we have some potential first appearances coming down the pike!
Let’s take the potential first step-by-step here. Now, I say “potential” firsts for a couple reasons. First, anything can happen between now (July) and the October release of this book. Some of these characters may pop up in monthly Marvel releases. Always possible. Second, there HAS been a Season 2 “The Rescue” Screen Comix adaptation. Now, a lot of comic collectors will dismiss Screen Comix because they contain screen shots from the actual live action footage and are therefore lacking the “art” portion of a comic definition. Decide for yourself here and here. Lastly, some comic collectors only county monthly 20-22 page “floppy” single issues as counting towards first appearances. So, to them, these would remain “first graphic novel” appearances. At any rate, let’s take a look at who is going to show up October, 2022 episode-by-episode:
The Marshal
Jo:
Again, probably a cameo if she shows up at all. A female human villager in Freetown under the protection of Cobb Vanth:
Gor Koresh:
Gangster and gladiator ring fight owner.
N0-AH:
An astromech droid initially offered to Cobb Vanth in trade instead of Boba Fett’s armor.
Taanti:
Weequay proprietor of cantina in Freetown.
Cobb Vanth:
A male human with an interesting history in Post-ROTJ canon. He first appears in the Aftermath novel, but this may be his first comic appearance.
Krayt Dragon:
Krayt Dragons have of course shown up before in Star Wars. Most notably, the skeleton C-3PO passes in A New Hope. As far as living creatures, there was a smaller version of a Krayt Dragon in Star Wars 9 (1998) called a “Canyon Krayt Dragon”:
After that, there was what’s called a “Greater Krayt Dragon” in Republic 83:
Neither is quite the type we see in the Mandalorian.
The Passenger
Frog Lady:
Dr. Mandible:
Probably just a cantina cameo.
Carson Teva:
Human male captain who served in the Rebel Alliance and later within the New Republic Starfighter Corps flying a T-65B X-wing starfighter.
The Heiress:
Frog Man:
Koska Reeves:
Female Mandalorian member of the Nite Owls.
Axe Woves:
Male human Mandalorian member of the Nite Owls.
Bo-Katan Kryze:
Bo-Katan Kryze first appeared in comics in Defenders of the Lost Temple, a Legends comic (non-canon). Since then, she has not had a full canon comic appearance. She appeared on the cover of Doctor Aphra 19 Sprouse Variant. She also may have an appearance in the Rebels Magazine material being republished by Dark Horse or the Rebels Manga. There’s also a Bo-Katan-esque appearance in Bounty Hunters 14 (although not official). So the water is murky on canon appearances. I haven’t had a chance to review those yet, so I’ll leave her first canon appearance up for debate for now.
The Jedi
Morgan Elspeth: A female Magistrate of Corvus. Check out her early designs modeled after Deathstick here!
Lang:
Male human mercenary working for Elspeth.
Governor Wing:
HK-87 Assassin Droid:
The Believer
Valin Hess: male human imperial officer. Was a part of Operation Cinder and above Migs Mayfeld in the imperial chain of command.
That would appear to be about it for major appearances that will show up in this graphic novel! Of course, we may get some miscellaneous planets, technology, and trooper types, but those are the big hitters. If you’re a completist, or just enjoy quality art in a graphic novel, grab a pre-order!
More later!
