Welcome back to another new comic book day, EveryWookiee!! I’ve scoured yesterday’s new releases and below are the first appearances, cameos and key events from this week’s Marvel and IDW Star Wars comic releases: High Republic #10, Star Wars Adventures #11, and Ghosts of Vader’s Castle #5.
You can find all this information and tons more on WookyWiki.com, our sister site and Star Wars Comics First Appearance and Key Issue Database!
Now, in order to talk about some of these issues (High Republic #10 in particular), spoilers will be necessary. So, if you don’t want the issue to be spoiled, or you want to revisit this post after you read this week’s releases, turn back now!
High Republic #10
Variants:
When we last left Keeve and Terec, they were in a Nihil stronghold, attempting to infiltrate their organization in an effort to gain intel and take on the Nihil threat head on. Terec’s Kotabi mind-twin, Ceret, who shares a mind with Terec is on the way to their location along with Avar Kriss, Sskeer and a gaggle of other Jedi.
Keeve has been asked to kill Myarga, the Benevolent as proof of her allegiance. She attempts to enlist Myarga’s help, but Myarga blows the Jedis’ cover. No sooner than the Nihil turn on Keeve and Terec, Tempest Runner, Lourna Dee shows up!
Lourna Dee made a previous cameo as a hologram without dialogue in High Republic #9. Her first comic cover appearance was all the way back on the Kenny Blanche 1:10 concept variant to High Republic #1
She enters the scene with a mysterious box. Opening it up, it is revealed that this box contains “The Great Leveler”, the weapon/creature that turned Loden Greatstorm to stone in Cavan Scott’s The Rising Storm novel, and the same weapon Emerick Caphtor is attempting to unravel the mystery of in Trail of Shadows. Although unnamed, this is the Great Leveler’s first comic appearance!
Meanwhile on the Jedi ship, Sskeer receives a call from the doctor back on Starlight Beacon. They know why he is losing his connection to the Force! We’ll have to wait for the reveal as to exactly why, though!
Terec succumbs to the effects of the Great Leveler, or so it seems.
And Ceret and Terec’s mental bond is severed for the first time in their lives!
Star Wars Adventures #11
Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles welcome three rookie pilots into Rogue Squadron in Star Wars Adventures #11. Rogue Two, Isla Mantra, Rogue Four, Lyle Kullan, and Rogue Five Ibti Myrak, have a lot of training to do before they click like a team should! First comic appearances for all three of these pilots!
Next up, Jabba’s caretaker for his pet, Buboicullaar has lost the little Frog-Dog. Ree-Yees makes his first canon appearance and so does Buboicullaar. Of course, they both made their first cameo appearances all the way back in Return of the Jedi Trade Paperback back in December of 1982 (The 8 1/2 ” X 11″ softcover, 64 pages. Not to be confused with digest size (4″ x7″) paperback released in May 1983). If you’re more into traditional 8 1/2″ by 11″ size comic books their first cameo appearance was in Return of the Jedi #1 (June 1983) with awesome cover art by the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz!
The Brokenshire Cover B shows a huge cast from Jabba’s court and very well could be the first cover appearance of a lot of them. When I have a spare couple of hours, I’ll revisit this and update both this post and Wookywiki.com:
Ghosts of Vader’s Castle #5:
Variants:
Finally, we have the finale to not only the Ghosts of Vader’s Castle, but also Cavan Scott’s, Francesco Francavilla’s, and Derek Charm’s Vader’s Castle series. While it doesn’t hold any first appearances, it’s full of the awesomely spooky art we’ve come to expect and a really satisfying resolution.
In the end, we find out just who the Ghost haunting Vader’s Castle actually is.
