Ok, wooks – I’m a bit late on this – but I just found out / noticed something about the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire mini-series by Cavan Scott and Racheal Stott that COULD be important down the line. It’s Lene Kostana and who she becomes.
Who Is Lene Kostana?
In the Dark Horse Comics mini, Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Saber For Hire – we follow around former Jedi turned monster-hunter-for-hire, Ty Yorrick and her partner/apprentice Drewan on a mission inside of the Nihil Occlusion zone. The Nihil have been kidnapping force-sensitive children and sending them to their Minister of Advancement, Baron Boolan, for his experiments.

The family of one of the missing children hires Ty Yorrick to find their daughter and bring her home before she is lost for good. That child’s name is Lene Kostana.
Now, if the name Lene Kostana sounds familiar, it’s likely because you read Star Wars Dooku: Jedi Lost. Even though the story in Star Wars: High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire happens over 200 years before the events of Dooku: Jedi Lost, Lene is Altiri, a long-living species from the Planet Altiria in the Unknown Regions. During Dooku: Jedi Lost she is a prominent Jedi Master at the temple on Coruscant.
In the book, Lene acts as a mentor for both Dooku and his friend Sifo-Dyas throughout that book and is highly regarded by both young Jedi.
While Dooku desperately wants Lene to choose him as her apprentice she eventually takes on the less talented and often troubled Sifo-Dyas as her apprentice.
Since, similar to Anakin Skywalker, Sifo-Dyas has the force power premonition Lene is a key figure helping him deal with his disturbing visions of the fall of the Order.
The First Comic Book Appearance of Lene Kostana
Here’s the important part for collectors… Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire #2 is the first comic book appearance of Lene Kostana.
I’ve read Dooku: Jedi Lost but this reference from Saber for Hire went over my head completely. It wasn’t until I saw someone mention her on social media that I made the connection to the comic books.
My guess is that Lene Kostana is what pulls Ty Yorrick back to the Jedi order and she becomes Ty’s apprentice. Or at the very least Ty delivers her to the order to be trained if something happens to her parents.
This is notable for a few reasons:
- Sifo-Dyas’s story, while detailed in chunks in The Clone Wars show, Plagueis novel, and Dooku: Jedi Lost audio drama, is still not completely told. I could see more Sifo-Dyas / Young Dooku content made in the future.
- Lene Kostana is fascinated with the Sith, Sith artifacts, and the relationship between the Dark and Light sides of the force.
- She’s around during the events of the Acolyte and could be a potential protagonist in future seasons if Disney decides to create more live-action from this time period.
I’m not saying you need to go out and buy up every copy of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire #2 or anything. Just wanted first appearance collectors to know the background of a character that they may or may not know has some significance outside of being a force-sensitive child.
