Let’s go lore nerds! The saga of the Battle of Jakku, the final decisive clash of the Galactic Civil War, is about to get even better. Following the release of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising in October, Marvel continues the adventure with the next exciting installment: Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Republic Under Siege, launching this November.
Thanks to Marvel.com we now have details into the 5th and 6th issues of the 12-part Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku maxi-series.

New Adventures in the Post-Return of the Jedi Era (Amped)
Penned by the acclaimed Alex Segura—renowned for Star Wars: Poe Dameron – Free Fall and EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE—this trilogy delves into the untold stories of the Battle of Jakku, a pivotal event first introduced in The Force Awakens. With stunning artwork by Leonard Kirk, Stefano Raffaele, and Jethro Morales, this series is set to be both a visual and narrative masterpiece.

Why Republic Under Siege is a Must-Read (In My Opinion)
Segura has expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting that this series will revisit beloved characters and introduce new faces and threats. “Our story will be epic in scope,” Segura says, promising fans a front-row seat to the final moments of the Galactic Civil War. He hints at the challenges that arise as the Empire collapses, leaving a power vacuum that could be filled by even darker forces.

Editor Mark Paniccia adds that this trilogy is not just about closing one chapter but also setting the stage for future storylines in the Star Wars universe. With subtle hints of what’s to come woven into the chaos of the battle, there’s plenty for fans to anticipate.
My take: I’m with these fellas. I love the concept of having a maxi-series about the Battle of Jakku for two reasons:
- We get more Luke Skywalker AFTER the Return of the Jedi. Luke is that dude. He’s the reason many ofus became Star Wars fans in the first place and is a galactic legend. I love that we’re getting new stories that are not overly restricted by the movies to build on to his legendary status.
- The Battle of Jakku is important. For all intents and purposes the Empire was doomed after Palpatine was yeeted to death by Anakin but they were still fighting. This Battle is where the Empire loses all of their power publicly and plants the seeds for the creation of THe First Order.
Also, Doctor Aphra is BACK. Which I love to see. I was kind of hoping that she would get more of a solo story after being so intertwined with Luke, Leia, and the Rebellion for the last 7 years or so but I’m not going to complain. She’s one of the few comic characters with a real edge to her and I think comics she’s a part of are more dynamic than most of those without.
