What's Next For Star Wars The Acolyte

If you follow Star Wars closely enough to read this site, you are probably aware that Deadline.com has announced that there will be no season two for Star Wars: The Acolyte. And while this is not an official announcement from the mothership, Germain Lussier, a Senior Writer at Gizmodo. reached out to Lucasfilm and got confirmation that the series, as of now, will not continue past the first season.

I’m torn on this because on one hand, I didn’t love the show. I thought the overall story was cool, the action scenes were phenomenal, and some of the performances (Manny Jacinto and Jody Turner-Smith in particular) were fantastic.

But I felt there was a lot missing from some of the other actors, I didn’t love the dialogue/writing, and never truly cared about the twin’s storyline.

Overall, I liked the ideas but didn’t like a lot of the execution.

But on the other hand, I hate it for those who DID love the show, and the creative teams involved who were proud of their work. It’s a bummer for them and I do have empathy for those who feel something they loved was taken from them.

In the end though emotion does not matter in situations like this. The show simply did not hit the numbers needed to justify the $180M budget and was axed. I genuinely think the budget is the main reason why it was axed. ~$22.5M per 33 minutes is a LOT for a show that does not have insane numbers.

The Acolyte May Be Dead But (Many) Of The Characters Are Not

If you’re one of the fans that range from heartbroken – bummed that the show will not continue, there is a small but tangeable silver lining to hang on to… The Acolyte, it’s characters, and their stories are not over.

My guess is that the take the ideas that Leslye Headland has put together for season 2 of Star Wars: The Acolyte and turn to novels and comic books to tell the story. Since nearly all of the Star Wars: The High Republic fans read Star Wars books and/or comics, it makes too much sense.

My personal hope is that we get a novelization of Season #1 of The Acolyte (I’ve long said that this show would be a better nove) and then two more books that act as sequels to the first season to create a three book trilogy. I may be way off but I think that it would sell really well with the fans who really liked or *wanted* to like the show.

We also know for sure that we are getting Star Wars: The Acolyte prequel comics and novels and reference books in the next 12 months.

All Upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte Content

If you are upset that Star Wars: The Acolyte is gone the best thing you can do is to support the creators and prove that there is real interest and monetary value in this show by purchasing the written and illustrated material that is intended to expand on the core story and characters of The Acolyte.

And if you’re a toy collector there are plenty of Star Wars: The Acolyte toys already out with more likely on the way. I won’t be going into every action figure, lightsaber, helmet, Pop, etc. expected to come out for Star Wars: The Acolyte but if you can look for yourself using the links below.

Here’s a full list of every comic book, novel, and reference book that we know will be coming out in the next year that will have ties with Star Wars: The Acolyte.

The book arrives in July 2025. No word yet on a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive edition with bonus steamer.”

I believe this will come out late summer in 2025. 99% sure that was mentioned at SDCC but cannot remember. THere’s also a chance this one gets cancelled since it does not appear to be near as far along as the other projects.
