Star Wars Darth vader 48 JTC Exclusives Announcement

Last week long-time Star Wars comic book cover artist, John Tyler Christopher announced a brand new negative space variant set for Star Was #45. There will be two covers. One is a secret but the other is the Dark Lord himself, Darth Vader.

Here’s the cover art for the red Darth Vader variant and a teaser image for the secret variant.

Here are the presale details.

  •  PRESALE starts at NOON ET on Thursday, June 13th, 2024, and is open for 48 hours.
  • PRESALE closes at NOON ET on Saturday June 15th, 2024.
  • You can order as many bundles as you’d like, no limit per order.
  • There will still be a PUBLIC and PRIVATE sale about a month after the books arrive in September, where you can buy CGC grades and the RAW books individually.
  • The raw set will be $40

As for the art, I like the Darth Vader cover but there’s just not enough negative space for me. It’s cool. But calling it negative space is a bit of a stretch.

My main question is who is on the secret variant cover? The top contenders for me are Darth Sidious or Mace Windu. But based on the outline on this latest teaser I’m not sure it’s them. First off, the outline on the cover doesn’t really look like either of them aside from the hood.

Also, JTC has already done a purple Darth Sidious variant for Star Wars #48 from the 2015 Marvel comics run.

The character appears to have two lightsabers or staffs as you can see two different shafts at two different angles.

Honestly, I have no clue who it’s going to be. Maybe Deathstick? The Bounty Hunter from the now canceled Bounty Hunters Marvel comic series.

Here’s what she looks like if you’re unfamiliar. She’s a nightsister assassin who ends up working for Qi-ra and Crimson Dawn.

She’s purple and carries two katanas but not sure she’s a fit either. She’s not been in a comic in quite some time and is not in any show or movie.

JTC typically reserves these covers for main characters who have a presence outside of the comics.

We won’t know until August at the earliest so all we can do is guess for now. I’ll go with Sidious or some version of Padme at the moment. But I don’t think I’m right.

That’s all for now.
