Star Wars The Acolyte Kelnacca #1 Comic Marvel Comics

STAY CALM YOU GUYS! Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics announced today that they are publishing a new comic featuring Kelnacca, a kriffing Wookiee Jedi, from the upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte Disney+ series. Star Wars: The Acolyte kicks off on Tuesday, June 4th with a two-episode premiere.

This will be a one-shot comic, meaning just one standalone issue, set to hit stores on September 4th that will be written by High Republic author Cavan Scott and illustrated by comic artist Marika Cresta!

The initial release, published by i09, included three of the covers. I’d expect there to be at least a few more.

But so far we have the Cover A by Phil Noto (dope), a variant by Björn Barends (dope), and a variant Takashi Okazaki.

He’s perfect. If you know me I love Wookiees. And, with apologies to Chewbacca, I love force-user wookiees even more.

My headcanon is that they made this specifically for me (jk) and therefore there’s a good chance I get pretty irresponsible with variants for Star Wars: The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1.

Here’s what we know about the story. While Kelnacca will be the main character, Star Wars: The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1 won’t take place during the events of Star Wars: The Acolyte.

Since wookiees can live to be 400 years old this story will take place much closer to the timeline included in the High Republic era books and comics.

Based on the wording in the release saying that it “will bridge the gap between The High Republic novels and comics to The Acolyte itself”, it seems that this comic will take place AFTER Phase III of the High Republic in the ~90-100 years leading up to The Acolyte.

Maybe we’ll get some answers about what happened to make Kelnacca so secluded.

Kelnacca Star Wars The High Republic The Acolyte

The main reason this is exciting is because this is the first original comic story (not an adaptation) that relates to an upcoming show or movie in quite some time.

And it’s the first ever prequel comic for a Disney+ Star Wars series.

I’m personally really excited for The Acolyte. The marketing has really ramped up over the last few weeks and the new footage coming out looks FANTASTIC!

Which, it should, because showrunner Leslye Headland was allowed a $180M budget for the 8 episode season one.
