Star Wars Celebration is in full swing in London right now and the DrunkWooky crew is absolutely violent with envy that we are not there! However, others are there and transmitting through the Fulcrum network so we can see what the Empire’s plans are coming on the horizon!
Check out how to stay in touch with the news and events of Celebration 2023 over here!
The Lucasfilm Studio Showcase started at 10 am British Time and Bespin Bulletin live blogged the news coming out of it! We’ll do a full summary of the rest of the news later on the site.
The big news, however, was the drop of the long-anticipated Ahsoka Trailer! Dropping in August (rumored), but officially “Summer 2023”, this looks to be the live action continuation of some solid Rebels action! So, if you have not seen the Rebels cartoon yet, you need to catch up! Take a look and stay with us after the trailer for a screen captures and a breakdown!
First, it looks like Ahsoka is investigating some sort of ancient temple. Could be a Jedi temple, could be something else. Could be some sort of more “balanced” religion like the one Bendu followed. This temple may be on Jedha, or it may be the temple on Lothal that the imperials were excavating during the Rebels cartoon. That is, after all, where Ezra accessed the World Between Worlds.
There are multiple glimpses of red-lightsaber-wielding baddies throughout the trailer. This one in particular is holding a double-bladed lightsaber reminiscent of the Inquisitorius.
Sabine Wren shows up.
It looks like she’s hanging out with her adorable Loth Cat in Ezra’s old communications tower on Lothal.
We get a glimpse of Ezra Bridger, in hologram form at least. I won’t spoil Rebels for anybody who hasn’t watched it, but obviously he’s not around right now in the post-ROTJ period.
Next up, we see the Phantom, the small ship that docks on the Rebels’ ship, the Ghost.
It’s piloted by none other than the Captain of the Ghost, Hera Syndulla.
And who else is there but her trusty, if not grumpy, sidekick, Chopper!
We see Ahsoka face down the character known as “Baylor” in what looks to be The World Between Worlds. Ahsoka has been here before. She is not stranger to this place where space and time seem to disobey the rules.
And we have yet another dark side user. This appears to be somebody different than the masked person wielding the Inquisitor saber as she does not have an Inquisitor hilt.
Not sure how attached you should get to this woman. Looks like she doesn’t have long to live.
Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for! We get a glimpse of Grand Admiral Thrawn!
Well, we get to see his back at least! As Ahsoka states he is returning as the “Heir to the Empire.” Of course, this is the name of Timothy Zahn’s novel which introduced Thrawn:
