Star Wars: Sana Starros is a 5 part comic miniseries from Marvel Comics written by fan-favorite High Republic author Justina Ireland (A Test of Courage, Out of the Shadows, Mission to Disaster, and Path of Deceit) and illustrated by Pere Perez (Iron Car, Spider Woman) that will kick off this February.
The miniseries will dive into Sana’s past and introduce her immediate family into Star Wars lore. Personally, this is a welcome addition and long overdue as Sana Starros has been a key figure and a mainstay in Star Wars comics for . Sana for over 7 years now.
Sana Starros first appearance was Star Wars #4 (2015) by Jason Aaron (eBay listings) where she posed as Han Solo’s wife and her first comic cover appearance is Star Wars #9 (2015), also by Jason Aaron (eBay listings).
I fully expect Sana to show up in any series that includes Doctor Aphra. And Aphra appearing in live action is a “when, not if” situation for me. In other words… expect to see Sana in a DisneyPlus series at some point in the near future. So from a speculation standpoint, I will be paying close attention to this miniseries.
“Writing Sana Starros is an incredible honor because I’ve really enjoyed what Alyssa Wong has done with the character in Doctor Aphra and so I’m excited to give Sana a little space to take center stage,” Ireland explained. “Sana is a complicated character who tends to play her cards close to her vest, and getting into her head and getting to share a bit of who she is outside of her relationships with folks like Aphra or Han or Leia has been a blast.”
“I’ve been wanting to draw a Star Wars book since I was a kid,” Pérez added. “I’m really doing my best to capture what I love about the franchise into the pages, and to do justice to Justina’s script. From the ships, to the exotic planets, the droids, the aliens, the creatures, the action, everything on this book is all I wished for and then some more.”
Since this is only the 2nd time a character created for comics first is getting their own series (the first was Doctor Aphra) I expect a decent amount of buzz around this series.
This is also not the first time that Justina Ireland has written about the Starros family. Avon Starros and her mother Ghirra Starros were featured throughout phase I of the High Republic where Ghirra used her power as a Galactic Republic Senator to influence the events that lead to the fall of Starlight Beacon. She was also Marchion Ro’s lover.
I really hope we get more backstory into how the Starros went from a Royal Family from Hosnian Prime to where Sana ends up… a rogue criminal turned Rebel Fighter.
