Starwars.com has an exclusive preview of Obi-Wan #4 this morning and it is gearing up to be a heavy doozy! Obi-Wan and Anakin are called to a secret mission. So secret, they will be the only two aware of their objective. It seemsCommander Mekedrix of the Roon defense force has gone rogue – missing! Anakin and Obi-Wan are tasked with finding him. Mekedrix first appeared in Obi-Wan #3 (TFAW, Ebay).
Now, what’s fascinating to me is that this issue appears to be gearing up to be a full-on homage to Apocalypse Now! One of my favorite, non-Star Wars films! Apocalpyse now is a jarringly disturbing study of the Vietnam War where a small squad of troops is tasked with retrieving an AWOL Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz. The squad was tasked with entering Cambodia to eliminate Kurtz, who the Army believed to be completely insane. It turns out Kurtz has recruited quite a following deep in the jungle. Does the squad have the resolve to complete their mission against one of the most decorated colonels in history?
Apocalypse Now is in-turn an interpretation of the 1899 novella, Heart of Darkness. Heart of Darkness is a tale of steamboat captain heading up an African river to accept his post. He hears of an agent for the trading company they work for named Kurtz. The company states that Kurtz is respected. The native people state that he is resented.
So, what will Obi-Wan and Anakin find when they make it to Mekendrix!?

Not all Jedi missions are on record.
Marvel’s Star Wars: Obi-Wan miniseries has found the legendary Jedi Master recounting key events from his life in his personal journals — previously untold tales from his days as a youngling, Padawan, Jedi Knight, and now, Jedi Master.
In StarWars.com’s exclusive first look Obi-Wan #4, Kenobi flashes back once again, this time to the Clone Wars. But this memory is of no ordinary assignment. Here, Obi-Wan and Anakin are selected for a troubling mission: one not to be documented and that involves an old friend…
Obi-Wan #4, written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Madibek Mesabekov, with a cover by Sebastian Cheng, arrives August 31.
