Mike Mayhew Comic Exclusive For Star Wars #25 + More On The Way

by GrandAdmiralFrik

Yesterday Mike Mayhew announced that he’s doing a store exclusive variant for Star Wars #25 that go on pre-order starting Wednesday May 25 at 5pm EST. It’s being sold at multiple stores. All the links you’ll need are below.

MORE ON THE WAY? I also popped in Mayhew’s WhatNot show last night and he and his team mentioned that they have at least three more Star Wars Exclusive Variants in the works. When pressed on which issues they wouldn’t say but did mention July as a month to pay attention to and that they should know soon. My best guesses are Obi-Wan #4 and The Mandalorian #2 being in that group.

According to Charles Soule, since this is his 100th modern era Star Wars comic, he’s received the greenlight from Marvel and Disney to do something special with it.

While we know very little about the specifics of this issue we do know that Charles has been writing it for years and Marvel is producing EIGHT open covers and two retail incentive covers. Clearly expecting this to sell well.

Here’s what Charles had to say about this importance of Star Wars #25 on his newsletter from March 2022.

I’ve been hinting about something special happening for the upcoming twenty-fifth issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic series, which I’ve been writing since 2020. It’s a milestone in many ways. First, getting to 25 issues on any series is a big deal. This is also the 100th issue of Star Wars published since the big relaunch in 2014. It is also the 100th Star Wars script I’ve written, between all the various titles I’ve worked on: (Lando, Obi-Wan & Anakin, Poe Dameron, Darth Vader, The Rise of Kylo Ren, Star Wars, War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign and Eye of the Storm.) That’s a lot of stories!

In order to mark the occasion, Star Wars #25 will feature new stories set in the worlds of some of those signature tales, including the creative teams for most of them, and variant covers from artists who worked on them with me. I want to leave a little mystery for now, so I’ll hold off telling you what I’m doing and who’s drawing what, but I think you’ll be happy. It’s been amazing to work with these artists again, and to tell new tales in these worlds. I’m also grateful that Marvel and Lucasfilm and the artists got on board with doing this – everyone’s crazy busy, and this was outside the normal range of the stories we’re telling right now. Feels really good.”

Time will tell if all of this hype amounts to a key issue, first appearance, and/or a nice investment opportunity but they certainly have my attention.
