Welcome back to another new comic book day, EveryWookiee!! Every week I take a look at the Star Wars comic releases and analyze for first appearances and key events that may be worth collecting or keeping an eye on for future development.
First appearances and keys from these weekly articles get added to or sister site and Star Wars comics first appearance and key issue database, Wookywiki.com!
This week we have Star Wars Adventures #14 (2020), High Republic Trail of Shadows #5, and Darth Vader #20 to sink our teeth into! Pretty light week in terms of first appearances or key events. Let’s get started!
Darth Vader #20
Variants:
Of course, the headline this week is that Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, made his first traditional comic book cover appearance with Grogu on the Sprouse Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary Variant to Darth Vader #20.
Other than that, a Narglatch appears. This is the first canon comic appearance of the cat-like creature. The Narglatch first appeared in comics in Dawn of the Jedi Force Storm #4:
Padme’s handmaiden, Sabe, is back as an agent of Crimson Dawn along with a reprogrammed Z-67:
Sabe first appeared in comics in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace Trade Paperback. If you’re looking for Sabe’s first single issue appearance, she appears impersonating the Queen in a black outfit in Episode 1 The Phantom Menace issue #1 from Dark Horse:
Zed-6-7 first appears in Darth Vader #1 (2020 Marvel).
Star Wars Adventures #14
Kief Varris and Moebin Faltus show up again during the first tale in this issue. They first appeared in last issue, #13, however.
Next up, we have Deva Lompop’s first comic story told during the High Republic era. Deva Lompop made her first appearance in War of the Bounty Hunters: Jabba The Hutt #1.
Two children make their first appearance alongside Deva, Ghenli and Vroma. I don’t expect much to come of these two in later stories, but hey, here they are. Noted.
Trail of Shadows #5
No first appearances here, but we do get some interesting canon points. Although the Nihil creature/weapon, the Great Leveler, has appeared before (First in Star Wars: The High Republic #10), it has always been some sort of hallucination or vision. Here, we actually have some look at what the physical creature actually looks like! The Baldeon 1:25 Variant is the Great Leveler’s first cover appearance.
Other than that, we have a glimpse of what Master Torben Buck was going through during the events of Fallen Star. Torben get’s sexy and walks off into destiny:
