Last week we reported that the PS4 and Playstation VR Bandai Gashapon 1/12 accessories were popping up on Ebay. For those uninitiated in the ways of Gashapon, these are tiny capsule toys that are sold from little capsule machines on the streets and in stores in Japan and other Asian markets, but not the U.S. of A. There’s even a 1/12 scale Gashapon capsule machine a 1/12 scale Gashapon capsule machine Gashapon toy that itself comes out of a gashapon capsule machine. Get it? Got it. Good.
Well, acting against my better judgment and my own personal rules, I ordered some sourced from Hong Kong. Pleasantly, what was advertised arrived and the fun commenced!
The listing I bought from is now sold out and was selling these for around 20 bucks. You can try your luck with an ebay search, but now people are trying to get between 30 and 50 bucks. I’d say 20 for the lot is about right and anything above that is overpaying. The ebay listing was for one of each capsule on offer.
So: (1) a capsule with a VR headset, PlayStationCamera, and PlayStationVR Move controllers; (2) a capsule with VR headset, PlayStationCamera, and a blue PS4 controller; (3) a capsule with a PS4 Pro with black controller and stand; and (4) a capsule with a white PS4 and two white PS4 controllers.
In general, these are pretty great little accessories. They are basically small shaped plastic with not tiny articulation or functionality. No disc trays are sliding out, no lights are lighting up. But that’s fine. these are props and damn fun ones at that! The controllers fit in most figures’ hands just like a gun thanks to those trigger and gun butt shaped PS4 controller designs. The headsets fit most figures’ heads but sit on top of larger heads like Gomez’ red skull and Chewie’s maned dome. The one criticism I could come up with, the PlaystationCamera doesn’t stand up like in the picture. It’s too top heavy. you’ll need putty or tape to keep it up right for a proper pose. Other than that, these have as much tiny detail as they could cram in and really do the job quite nicely.
