Super7 Tease Thundercats Figure Announcement Next Monday

Super7 posted the image below via their Instagram yesterday, teasing that a Thundercats action figure line will be announced next Monday August 12, 2019. The image appears to be a super close-up of Lion-O peering through the hilt of the Sword of Omens. Apart from being able to tell it’s a picture of an actual figure, it doesn’t betray much information about the line ahead of Monday’s announcement. I hope those glowing eyes aren’t just Photoshop and we get some LEDs!

After two lines of classics from Mattel, and Bandai in various scales, let’s hope Super7’s line gains some traction and they can dig a little deeper into the Thundercat character roster.

No indication about number of points of articulation, scale, or any of that. Mezco had a mega scale release for Lion-O, Mumm-Ra and other Thundercats a while back. Those were 14″ with 7 points of articulation. In spite of the scant articulation, they had superb detail. Thundercats.org has a great write-up on that line.

Bandai released a line of 6″ figures tying into the 2011 cartoon revamp. These were based on the entirely new art aesthetic in that show and not classic Thundercats, though.

Bandai also released a 4″ classics line and an 8″ classics line. Bandai did release a classics line of 6″ figures, but it was DOA, releasing only Lion-O and Mumm-Ra.

Mattel had a short-lived subscription line in 6″ scale. Through a “Club Third Earth” subscription, Mattel released Lion-O, Wilykat and Wilykit (SDCC Exclusive), Mumm-Ra, Jackalman, Pumyra, and Panthro before cancelling the line.

Other than that, in recent releases, all us Thundercats fans have had to go off of were the Funko Savage World line. These were approximately 5.5″ with 5 points of articulation and one accessory each on average. They were cool in a retro throwback sort of gimmick way.

A 6″ line that collectors could pit against other 1/12 scale figures would be very exciting, however.

I also wouldn’t mind Super7 taking advantage of an homage to the Mezco” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>LED light up feature on Lion-O from the LJN line.
