Hot Toy Announce Solo: A Star Wars Story DX 1/6 Scale Darth Maul

Hot Toys seem to be just pulling announcements deep out of left field as we approach SDCC. Seeing a second DX Darth Maul come out was a play right out of M. Night Shyamalan’s book.

Unlike the previous Hot Toys figure based on Maul’s appearance in the Phantom Menace, this figure depicts a more grizzled and aged Maul from Solo, complete with articulated robotic legs and Crimson Dawn medallion. Like the Phantom Menace Darth Maul, this figure also comes with independent rolling eyeballs. Another thing that really intrigues me about this figure is that his red and black tattoos appear to extend down to his torso. I’m wondering how far down that goes and if we get the opportunity to pose a shirtless Maul a la Sideshow’s Mythos statute.

It’s a strange move, because we already have three Darth Maul figures to choose from. There’s the $239.99 Sideshow Battle of Naboo Darth Maul available now, the $282.00 Hot Toys Phantom Menace Movie Masterpiece Darth Maul scheduled to release this month or next, and the $405.00 Hot Toys Phantom Menace Movie Masterpiece Darth Maul with Sith Speeder schedule to release this month or next.

Surprised many Star Wars fans with his appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story, audience discovered that the deadly Darth Maul has survived to build an empire of his own as the true leader of Crimson Dawn. Operating from his homeworld of Dathomir, Maul commanded the crime syndicate with the help of refined figurehead and terrifying enforcer Dryden Vos, who traversed the galaxy on his lavish yacht entertaining and brutally imposing the will of his master. After his death, Dryden’s first lieutenant Qi’ra assumed control over the territories, working closely with Maul to continue their rule.

Skillfully crafted based on the appearance of Darth Maul in the film, the new 1/6th scale collectible figure features a newly developed head sculpt with stunning likeness, finely tailored outfit and robe, highly detailed robotic legs, Maul’s iconic double-bladed lightsaber with LED light-up function and interchangeable lightsaber blades emulating the weapon in motion, a selection of interchangeable hands for posing options, a specialized seat for Maul and a figure base.
